Decom-position is Rebirth

Inspired by the ideas behind the Ikea Catalogue scene from Fight Club, I bought a second-hand chair to comment on the rampant consumerist culture we live in and how it promotes the creation of cheap and disposable products that pollute the earth.
I created the soft-sculptures first and attached them to the chair lined with fabric. Then I covered the seat with air-dry clay and textured it. Finally, I attached the mushrooms to the seat and the fungi to the legs, and painted all the clay with acrylic. I used bright colors and detailed texture to highlight the Amanita Muscara mushrooms and Trametes Versicolor fungi growing from the chair, showing the beauty in nature. They represent nature taking its course on disposable products, leading to their demise.
